Benny Lim Wei Cheah started playing the clarinet at the age of 12 in the St. Andrew’s School Military Band and continued playing in bands throughout his tertiary education in Temasek Polytechnic. He was also appointed Senior Band Major Music in St. Andrew’s and Vice President in Temasek Polytechnic Concert Band.
Taking his love for music a step further, he also actively plays in many bands and orchestras out of school – mainly the Philharmonic Winds, Orchestra Collective, WindStars Ensemble and The Young Musicians’ Foundation Orchestra . On top of that, he served his National Service with The Singapore Police Force Band gaining many displays and marching band experiences from it.
Conjointly, he took part in many wind band competitions and festivals, both locally and abroad, to further hone his skills as an artist and learn from other like-minded people. Such festivals include the Singapore International Band Festival with Orchestra Collective, Young Euros Classic with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Wind Band Association Singapore(WBAS) Band Festival and Bandas de Musica – Ciudad de Valencia (The International Wind Band Contest – City Of Valencia) with Philharmonic Winds.
Currently under the tutelage of Mr Tang Xiao Ping(Associate Principal – Singapore Symphony Orchestra), Benny has devoted himself to continue his studies in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts as a performance major.
