kids’ philharmonic@sg is a non-profit organisation which had its beginnings as a pilot project organised by MusArt Edu Hut, a private music school committed to the training of classical music in Singapore. It had performed unofficially for the first time in December 2011 at the Esplanade Recital Hall. It was followed by a sold-out concert soon after and has since developed into kids’philharmonic@sg. It made its inaugural debut at the Singapore Conference Hall on September 9, 2012.
kids’ philharmonic@sg believes strongly in the educational benefits of playing in an orchestra. Student musicians get to work together as a group, developing teamwork and leadership in the process. In doing so, all musicians learn to play in tandem with the others, hitting the same notes at the same time, while observing standardized tempo, dynamics, and bowing. Through it all, it instills a high level of discipline in the members.
kids’ philharmonic@sg, had received the prestigious “Gold” award in “One Future” World Orchestra Festival in Vienna in 2015. Recently, it had also collaborated with the Vienna Boys’ Choir for a concert in 2016 and received an overwhelming standing ovation. kids’ philharmonic@sg is also a recipient of the National Arts Council’s Seed Grant for the period of 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2018.
