Zhang Tong (张桐) is a cellist and instructor. He began his study of the cello when he was 7 years old. His talent manifested early, and was recognized, leading to his scholarship to Shanghai Middle School in 2001.
In 2006 Zhang Tong participated in a cello festival in Kansas with full sponsorship. In the same year, he went to Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music under a full scholarship and studied with Qin Li Wei, the head of cello study. He graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music, and in the same year he participated in the Great Mountains Music Festival in Korea with full sponsorship. Later, he attended masterclasses and private classes with Aldo Parisot and Jian Wang. Zhang Tong went to the fellowship in Hong Kong Philharmonic audition in the final round.
Zhang Tong is also a guest principal in Singapore National Youth Orchestra and a freelance of Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
Zhang Tong possesses experience both in teaching and performance, having instructed in many schools since the age of 16. He also performed as a guest principal in Singapore National Youth Orchestra at Esplanade Concert Hall, and as a member of Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music Orchestra at Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore.
